• About Mike

I started learning German as an adult in Australia in 2010, and now I speak it fluently without an accent. People say I must have a talent for languages, but in reality, it came down to using the right strategies — some of which I borrowed from my musical training.

That same experience shapes how I teach. I help my clients develop a fine ear for English, learn how the brain learns best, and stay motivated long after our lessons end.

I first moved to Berlin in 2011 and since then I've worked with hundreds of German speakers. I also speak German regularly in private, professional and musical contexts. I will teach you the strategies I used to become fluent in German.

I began teaching English in 2014, and later began teaching German at the Goethe-Institut in Australia. Teaching both English and German gives me invaluable insight into how to support your learning quickly and without stress.

Combing a deep understanding of pronunciation and natural speech in both languages and expertise from musical training, I can help you develop a clear and natural accent to be proud of, to ensure you are understood exactly how you intended.

German isn’t taboo in my lessons — it is seen as a useful resource. We work together to express things naturally and authentically, and we can draw upon German phrases and vocabulary along the way to help you feel confident about your word choice.

You don’t need talent. You need the right strategies — and someone who understands the process from both sides. That’s where I can help.
