  • About Mike

    My name is Mike, I'm from Sydney Australia and I live in Berlin, Germany, where I teach English and German.

    I've been playing music my whole life and have dedicated myself to education since 2011, including completing a Master of Secondary Education and the Cambridge-Delta.

    Learning to speak German fluently with a native speaker accent has been one of the most satisfying things I've ever done, and I can show you the techniques I used to be able to achieve this goal.

    • My lessons are very conversational, with grammar and vocabulary support as needed. For many, my style is very different to other traditional, grammar focused lessons, because focusing on grammar too heavily does not lead to fluency.

  • Take control of your learning

    As early as the first session, my students' faces light up when they realise they are starting to understand how languages work, how the brain works and what they need to do to learn languages.

     

    Languages are a skill, like playing sport, music or typing. Technical knowledge helps in the learning process, but ultimately, your muscle memory needs to be in control. Language teachers with only a few years of experience do not understand the depth of this, and might instead tend to only lecture about grammar, and teach foreign languages as though they are teachingh maths or geometry.

     

    With me, you will learn to appreciate that power of reading aloud, you will understand spaced repetition for learning vocabulary and the important role of grammar but that it is not as important as accurate pronunciation and intonation.
